Vito Moja goes to great lengths to make sure no child is left behind when it comes to education, especially child literacy. With our fifteen ongoing library projects, including the first two, Jasmine Maina Embu Hospital Pediatrics Library and Kirigi Primary School Library, we make sure orphanages, children’s hospitals, and primary schools receive books to read and school supplies throughout the year.
Deborah, a breast cancer survivor herself, works hard to educate and bring breast cancer awareness to the villages of Embu. Now 10 years cancer-free, Deborah realized had she still been in Kenya for her diagnosis, she likely would not have survived due to a lack of education on self-breast exams, resources for diagnosis, and access to skilled care. Wanting to change this, Vito Moja works to form partnerships with local organizations, hospitals, and doctors to give a voice and enable many in the villages to get quality treatment and health awareness. Breast Cancer is a silent killer in Kenya's oppressed rural areas, but through awareness and education, many will get the help they need on time.
Starting in 2019, the Health Scouts Program trains upper-level primary school students on basic health topics, including blood pressure and sugar, hygiene, and mental health. Students are also provided practical knowledge in these areas and assigned elderly patients in the Embu community to monitor and document their health and help them establish healthy goals.
Vito Moja Thrift Store
In 2016, Vito Moja will open a thrift store in the village of Embu that provides affordable goods and clothing, school uniforms, health resources, and textbooks for students to borrow and return. Volunteers will run the thrift store, and all proceeds will go to support Vito Moja and the local community.
